A crisis makes the man.

In the Making

This fast-paced, 85,000-word, book club-ready novel portrays one boy’s struggle to become a man alongside one man’s struggle to reinvent himself. This is a 'coming-of-age, at any age' father-son tale that has a big hook with one of the novel's inciting incidents, baby formula contamination, back in today's headlines.

Told through the parallel perspectives of Alec (father) and Jack (son), In the Making, follows each character’s rapid descent from crisis to outright disaster.  When Alec discovers his company's baby formula is poisoning children, he is forced to reconsider his belief of ‘success at all costs’.  The novel explores the role of power and betrayal among men and what type of revenge (if any) is worth pursuing. Ultimately, this is a story about what fathers and sons can teach each other and what they must overcome on their own.

In the Making is informed by my marketing and sales experience across the CPG & Healthcare landscape. The novel was workshopped this fall at A Public Space. Other recent writing workshops include Gotham/Zoetrope’s Advanced Fiction Writing.
